Bed Management Project

Description

ED patients are sometimes over assessed and there are options available to overcome this issue .Implementation of push/pull model from within the wards may reduce the time taken in waiting for a bed, as there was found to be a high degree of correlation between discharge times in the ward and long waiting times within ED
A 3-2-1 analysis by diagnosis also clearly identified that the delay was from the time a bed was requested until a bed became available.

    Joe,

Auckland also took a 3-2-1 approach to the initial analysis and our subsequent projects have been focussed in these areas. This really did help to move the focus away from this 'just being an ED problem' and built engagement for a whole of hospital approach. Making sure that the dat is reliable can be a real challenge, and is essential to ensure that people have confidence in the analysis and recommendations.
