This is the first of a series of articles highlighting the research funded through the STAR (Strategy to Advance Research) project. The $2.7m STAR project was funded by the Tertiary Education Commission to build research capability in nursing and allied health disciplines.

An in depth study using carefully thought through protocols and with cultural sensitivity.
However there was no comment on the questions asked of the participants as to why they seemed more prone to 'modern' chronic diseases. Would the first question not have been 'what do you eat now that you did not eat in the Islands?'
