A report just released by the New Zealand Nurses Organisation tracks NZNO's experience of the implementation and progress of the Physician Assistant Demonstration Pilot at Counties Manukau District Health Board.

The critique challenges Health Workforce New Zealand's actions with regard to the implementation of a Physician Assistant role in Aotearoa, though NZNO does not challenge the role per se. It advocates comprehensive consultation, collaboration and evidenced-based policy development in determining and planning for the most appropriate and sustainable health practitioner mix to meet New Zealand's future health needs.
