Diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) affect a growing number of New Zealanders each year, and particularly their quality of life and life expectancy.
The More Heart and Diabetes Checks health target came into effect on 1 January 2012. The target is that 90% of the eligible population will have had their cardiovascular risk assessed in the last five years, to be achieved in stages by 1 July 2014. The first stage is to achieve 60% by July 2012, and 75% by July 2013. The eligible population includes: Māori, Pacific and South Asian males 35 years and over, Māori, Pacific and South Asian females and other ethnic group males 45 years and over and all other ethnic group females 55 years and over.
