Elective Services PWP
The changing demands of New Zealand’s growing, diversifying and aging population are already placing significant new demands upon the health sector generally, and elective services are affected significantly.
The Government has a policy of an additional increase of an average of 4000 elective discharges nationally, per year. There is a particular focus upon those DHBs who face a greater than 25% increase in their discharges to meet their local demand over the next years.
The Elective Services Productivity and Workforce Programme has been established with Cabinet approval to support and promote significant transformations in elective services productivity. A requirement of each funded project is that a comprehensive Final Evaluation be prepared which will be made widely available in the health sector. Other DHBs will be encouraged to review these reports, and apply the lessons as appropriate for their circumstances.
